HCC Distance Learning College has removed the barriers of location and time, making an accredited college degree accessible and affordable for every student at any age. Accredited Distance Learning comes to you
either online, on television, and/or via videocassette! Far different and vastly improved from the outdated correspondence courses of old, modern Distance Learning courses combine the best of on-campus support and feedback with the convenience of 21st Century technology.
HCC Distance Learning Courses are offered in several formats, carefully designed to provide independent study courses with minimum barriers and maximum educational support for each Distance Learning College student.
Accredited Distance Learning Online Courses.
As more people have become proficient using the World Wide Web and the Internet, Online Distance Learning has developed into the preferred way to access Distance Learning College courses. Distance Learning courses
offered throughout the academic year - Fall, Spring, and Summer, Web-based courses equivalent to on-campus courses earning 3-4 semester hours of credit. Online Distance Learning students do weekly assignments at their own computers and communicate directly with the instructor via e-mail.
In addition, online courses require assigned readings from course
textbooks and/or study guides. Accessing Online Distance Learning is quick and technologically easy. Internet technology makes it possible for Online Distance Learning students to have online discussion groups and study sessions through instant messaging and Distance Learning College chat rooms. Online Distance Learning provides the stimulation of student exchanges without the time-consuming travel to a classroom.
For Distance Learning College Students who prefer a more visual-oriented format:
Video Cassette Distance Learning Courses.
Video Cassette Distance Learning students check out a quantity of video cassettes for the semester and view them on their home television sets.
Video Cassettes are issued to students during their required course
orientation at the beginning of the semester. All Video Cassette Distance Learning College courses require assigned reading from textbooks and/or study guides. Some Video Cassette Distance Learning courses also require written assignments. Distance Learning instructors and classmates are as close as the telephone when you have questions.

Distance Learning Course
Orientation -
meet your instructor and classmates, receive a course syllabus and
handouts, and review your exam schedule. Also, receive information on
contacting your Distance Education instructor and classmates and
submitting Distance Education class work (All students are required to
attend orientation for each Distance Education Course taken-NO
EXCEPTIONS.) Most class orientation are on-line, others are in-person
at the HCC Administration Building, 3100 Main Street. Please check
the printed or on-line class schedule to determine your classes
orientation requirement.
Distance Learning Course
Textbooks -
Available at the Houston Community College Bookstore or online
booksellers. Required text information will be included in the class
orientation.
Optional
Distance Learning Test Review
Sessions -
Some instructors offer in-person review sessions which will be
scheduled before each of 2-4 Distance Education class exams during the
semester. The availability of review sessions will be included in the
class orientation.
Distance Learning Course
Testing -
All testing for Distance Education Courses are taken on an Houston
Community College campus. Monitored Distance Education exams are
administered on weekends at the HCC Administration Building, 3100
Main Street, Friday evenings from 4-7 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to
1 p.m. Students are made aware of their required test weekends for the
semester during the course orientation.
Choose Accredited Distance Learning Courses at the
Houston Community College.
HCC has developed its Accredited Distance Learning College with the student as a priority. Courses chosen for the Distance Learning Program are of the highest quality and cover subject matter that can be delivered in a timely, cost-efficient manner.
HCC is continuously evaluating and improving Distance Learning course content and delivery systems to make the Distance Learning experience equal to or even more rewarding than traditional on-campus instruction.

by visiting the Distance Education Office at the HCC Administration
Building, 3100 Main Street, 3rd floor and/or by on-site advising at
other
HCC locations
upon request. Confidential sessions with the distance education
counselors will help students understand course transfers, college
regulations or education plan options. Houston Community College
counselors also maintain a local referral base in order to provide
appropriate referrals to students with personal or family issues that
may require long-term solutions.
The highest quality courses and professors are chosen, based on their ability to provide the best educational opportunity for Distance Learning
students in a non-traditional environment. Professors, instructors, technical support,
Distance Education staff members, and counselors are available to assist and motivate Distance Learning students
while enrolled in the distance education program. Distance Learning College students
are expected to provide the extra amount of self-discipline and personal resolve required by Distance Learning courses.
