HCC Online College Education Program has removed the barriers of location
and time, making a college education accessible and affordable for every
student at any age. Online Education comes to you either
online, on television, and/or via videocassette!
Far different and vastly improved from the
outdated correspondence courses of old, modern Online Education combines
the best of on-campus support and feedback with the convenience of 21st
Century technology.
HCC
Online Education Courses are offered in several formats, carefully
designed to provide independent study courses with minimum barriers and
maximum educational support for each Online College Education student.
Distance
Education Online Courses.
As
more people have become proficient using the World Wide Web and the
Internet, Online Education has developed into the preferred way to
access Distance Education. Online College Education courses are offered
throughout the academic year - Fall, Spring, and Summer,
Web-based courses equivalent to on-campus courses earning 3-4 semester
hours of credit. Online College Education students do weekly assignments
at their own computers and communicate directly with the instructor via
e-mail. In addition,
online courses require assigned readings from course textbooks and/or
study guides. Accessing Online College Education courses is quick and
technologically easy. Internet technology makes it possible for Online
College Education students to have online discussion groups and study
sessions through instant messaging and Distance Education Online chat
rooms. Online College Education provides the stimulation of student
exchanges without the time-consuming travel.
For
Distance Education Students who prefer a more visual-oriented format:
Video Cassette Distance Education Courses.
Video
Cassette Distance Education students check out a quantity of video
cassettes for the semester and view them on their home television sets.
Video Cassettes are issued to students during their required course
orientation at the beginning of the semester. All Video Cassette Distance Education courses
require assigned reading from textbooks and/or study guides. Some Video
Cassette Distance Education courses also require written assignments.
Distance Education instructors, counselors and classmates are as close
as the telephone when you have questions.
Important
Requirements for All HCC Online College Education Courses:
Online
College Education Course Orientation - Meet your instructor and
classmates, receive a course syllabus and handouts, and review your exam schedule.
Also, receive information on contacting your Online Education instructor
and classmates. (All students are required to attend orientation for
each Online Education Course taken-NO EXCEPTIONS.) Some
class orientation are on-line, others are in-person at the HCC
Eastside Campus. Please check the printed or on-line class schedule to
determine your classes orientation requirement.
Online
College Education Textbooks - Available at the HCC Bookstore or
online booksellers. Please contact Pat Barden in the Distance
Education Office at (713) 718-5276 or
email her for textbook information and assistance.
Optional
Online
College Education Test Review Sessions -
Scheduled before each of 2-4 Online Education class exams during the semester.
Online
College Education Course Testing - All testing for Online College
Education Courses are taken on an HCC campus. Monitored Online
Education exams are administered on weekends at the HCC Eastside campus
Friday evenings from 4-7 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Testing is also held at the HCC Westgate Campus on Saturdays from 10
a.m. to 1 p.m. Students are made aware of their required test weekends
for the semester during the course orientation.

HCC
has developed its Online College Education Programs with the student as
a priority. Courses chosen for the Online College Education Program are
of the highest quality and cover subject matter that can be delivered in
a timely, cost-efficient manner. HCC is continuously evaluating and
improving Online Education course content and delivery systems to make
the Online Education experience equal to or even more rewarding than
traditional on-campus instruction.

or by visiting our "storefront" at HCC Southeast
College - Eastside Center and by on-site advising at other
HCC
locations upon request. Confidential sessions with the
distance education counselor will help students understand course
transfers, college regulations and education plan options. Houston
Community College counselors also maintain a local referral base
in order to provide appropriate referrals to students with personal or
family issues that may require long-term solutions.
The
highest quality courses and professors are chosen, based on their
ability to provide the best educational opportunity for Online College
Education students in a non-traditional environment. Professors, instructors, technical support,
Distance Education staff members, and counselors are available to assist and motivate Online Education
students while enrolled in the distance education program. Online Education students
are expected to provide
the extra amount of self-discipline and personal resolve required by
Online College Education courses.
