Admissions Procedures for Returning Students

IMPORTANT NOTICE - If you have attended HCC within the past 12 months, your file may already be activated for registration. If you have questions concerning your readiness for registration, please contact the Distance Education Counselor

Step 1

Students returning after being absent two (2) consecutive Fall and Spring terms must complete an affirmation of residence form prior to enrollment. After submission of this form, a student's file will be reactivated which is required prior to online registration.

  • Students who live in the Houston area should submit the Affirmation of Residence form and supporting documentation to any HCC Admission Office. Those living outside of the Houston area are welcome to fax it, along with the supporting documentation, to ATTN: Student Records at 713.718.2111 for processing. When faxing the form, please allow 48-hours for processing.

  • IMPORTANT: Students must submit at least TWO (2) types of documentation when updating residency. Examples of such documentation include a copy of a Driver's License or a State issued ID card; Voter Registration; Residential Utility Bills that are over 90 days old (e.g., electricity, water, or gas); etc. Please contact a DE Counselor for questions regarding acceptable documentation.
Step 2 If you are a "new to college" student with fewer than 15 college hours earned, please thoroughly review each module of the Successful Online s Students (S.O.S) class online. While this step is required for "new to college" students, it is also strongly recommended for any student who will be taking classes online with HCC Distance Education for the first time.

Submit official transcript(s) from each educational institution that you have attended since LAST enrolled at HCC. Please check with the sending institution(s) and request the quickest method for transcript submission: Electronic Delivery (EDI). Unofficial transcripts (faxed, copied and emailed) are not acceptable. If you have a college transcript from a country outside of the United States, visit The Transfer Office web page for information on having foreign coursework evaluated.

Address for sending official transcripts:

Office of Admissions & Records
P.O. Box 667517
Houston, Texas 77266-7517

To confirm receipt of your transcript(s) contact the Office of Student Records at 713.718.8500.

After you complete all of the previous steps, please register for classes online. If you encounter error messages during the registration process, please contact DE Counseling at decounseling@hccs.edu and provide your full name, your HCC student ID, and details of your specific difficulties.
