Types
of Texas Workforce Development Courses.
HCC
Workforce Development Courses are offered in several formats, carefully
designed to provide independent study courses with minimum barriers
and maximum educational support for each Workforce Development student.
Texas
Workforce Development Online Courses.
As
more people have become proficient using the World Wide Web and the
Internet, Online Workforce Development has developed into the preferred
way to access Workforce Development. Online Workforce Development courses
are offered throughout the academic year - Fall, Spring, and Summer,
Web-based courses equivalent to on-campus Workforce Development courses.
Online Workforce Development students do weekly assignments at their
own computers and communicate directly with the instructor via e-mail.
In addition, online
courses require assigned readings from course textbooks and/or study
guides. Accessing Online Workforce Development is quick and technologically
easy. Internet technology makes it possible for Online Workforce Development
students to have online discussion groups and study sessions through
instant messaging and Distance Workforce Development chat rooms. Online
Workforce Development provides the stimulation of student exchanges
without the time-consuming travel.
Workforce
Development Video Cassette Courses.
Video
Cassette Workforce Development students check out a quantity of video
cassettes for the semester and view them on their home television sets.
Video Cassettes are issued to students during their required course
orientation at the beginning of the semester. All Video Cassette Workforce
Development courses require assigned reading from textbooks and/or study
guides. Some Video Cassette Workforce Development courses also require
written assignments. Workforce Development instructors, counselors and
classmates are as close as the telephone when you have questions.
Important
Requirements for All Workforce Development Distance Education Courses:
Workforce Development Course Orientation -
meet your instructor
and classmates, receive a course syllabus and handouts, and review your
exam schedule. Also, receive information on contacting your Distance
Education instructor and classmates and submitting Distance Education
class work (All students are required to attend orientation for each
Distance Education Course taken-NO EXCEPTIONS.) Most class orientation
are on-line, others are in-person at the HCC Administration Building,
3100 Main Street. Please check the printed or on-line class schedule
to determine your classes orientation requirement.
Workforce Development Course Textbooks -
Available at the
Houston Community College Bookstore or online booksellers. Required
text information will be included in the class orientation.
*Optional Workforce Development Test Review Sessions -
Some instructors
offer in-person review sessions which will be scheduled before each
of 2-4 Distance Education class exams during the semester. The availability
of review sessions will be included in the class orientation.
*Workforce Development Course Testing -
All testing for Distance
Education Courses are taken on an Houston Community College campus.
Monitored Distance Education exams are administered on weekends at the
HCC Administration Building, 3100 Main Street, Friday evenings from
4-7 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Students are made aware
of their required test weekends for the semester during the course orientation.
*Many
Workforce Development Courses are for personal enrichment, which do not
have exams and are awarded Continuing Education Units (CEU) instead of grades.
